Celtics advance on Garnett’s 28 points, 14 rebounds, five blocks and three steals

Per KG, Hawks owner responsible for KG’s output

Kevin Garnett led the Boston Celtics past the Atlanta Hawks 83-80 on a night that Garnett said was fueled by remarks from Hawks co-owner Michael Gearon.

“Thank you to their owner for giving me some extra gas tonight,” Garnett said. “My only advice to him is next time he opens his mouth to know what he’s talking about with X’s and O’s versus checkbooks and bottom lines.”

Garnett is referring to remarks Gearon made on Wednesday which he states that Garnett is “the dirtiest player in the league.”

“On top of all that, we don’t get any calls, which I know everybody always hears,” Gearon said. “But I’ll give you a stat. Last night, we are playing this old physical team. They are old. I know what happens when you play basketball, old guys foul. [Kevin] Garnett is the dirtiest guy in the league. We are playing Boston last night and they had two fouls the whole first half. We had five times that and we’re athletic.”

Celtics Coach Doc Rivers had nothing but praise for his superstar after his team clinched the series.

“He [Garnett] bailed us out. Kevin was fantastic,” Rivers said. “I was just so proud of our guys on the last play Kevin scored on. Execution, that’s all we talk about. They went to the last option we wanted and then Kevin had to make the shot, and he made the shot. That’s hard to do under pressure.”
